Ethnic Minorities "Have Double Poverty Rate"

The poverty rate among ethnic minority groups in Britain is 40 per cent - twice as much as for white people, according to new research today.

People in minority ethnic communities are being overlooked for jobs and are being paid lower wages, despite improvements in education and qualifications, the study found.

I think this is due to lack of integration. Immigrants coming to this country are actively encouraged to scrounge off the welfare state, and discouraged from blending into British culture as a sign of "diversity". They need to learn the good old British values of hard work and stoicism; they need to become something more than they are now in order to achieve success. Those foreigners who do attain the heights in this country are those that become all but British in nature.

Literal Self-Loathing In France

The French dislike themselves even more than the Americans dislike them, according to an opinion poll published today.

The survey of six nations, carried out for the International Herald Tribune daily and France 24 TV station, said 44 percent of French people thought badly of themselves against 38 percent of U.S. respondents who had a negative view of the French.

Friday Share

My share this week is more Finnish metal: For My Pain, a band who originated as a side-project for members of several Finnish bands, including Tuomas Holopainen, keyboardist of Nightwish. The song is "Dancer in the Dark", and it isn't actually an official music video but rather something somebody has made themselves using the song as a soundtrack.

Anyway, enjoy:

Pigophobia

A school in Amsterdam has halted lessons on rural life because the Islamic children refused to talk about pigs. Various pupils began to demolish the classroom when the pig came up for discussion.

But I thought it was only "extremists" who acted this way...

Opinion Round-up...

My round-up today consists of a few opinion pieces:

Firstly there's this one, which attempts to put the Virginia Tech shootings down to racism by the American police in one of the weirdest and most non-sensical arguments I have ever read.

Then, linking in to something I mentioned yesterday, we have another one of those pieces in which the author provides us with the earth-shattering revelation that "racism, bigotry and inequality are alive and well". Gee, that's opened my eyes.

But it's not all bad. This decent article talks about the power that white racism holds when used as a tool for media attention by camera-savvy exhibitionists like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, and the way this has skewed the moral compass of many. Interesting reading.

Peace Be Upon Me

I've only just come across this satirical website today, the Official Website of the Prophet Mohammed - extraordinarily offensive to a whole bunch of people. My kind of satire.

Ho, Ho, Ho!

Here's a really funny piece at OpEdNews, dealing with the issue recently covered here of attempts to get the words "nigger", "ho" and "bitch" banned from hip-hop lyrics: Ho, Ho, Ho: The End of Racism and Sexism.

Here's an extract:

I say, why stop with bitches, ho's, and niggers? Let's take this strategy to its natural conclusion and ban "war" and "poverty" and "rape" and "genocide" and "oppression," We'll even ban "global warming" if Al Gore promises to finally shut his redneck mouth (all right, perhaps we'll ban "redneck," too). Shit, after only an hour or so of work, the planet will be a goddamned equalitarian paradise and we can all get back to our couches, our flat-screens, and our remote controls.

Of course, it's not all good news. Like most prophets, Simmons and Chavis are facing resistance. Dog breeders are really bitching, Samuel L. Jackson is petitioning for a "nigga" exemption, and insiders are expecting to hear from lawyers at the North Pole. It appears banning "ho" just might present some copyright issues with a certain fat man in a red suit. Oops, can I still say "fat"?

Racism Is Still Alive Today, Blah Blah Blah...

Here is another one of those stories we see so often, as someone repeats the tedious mantra that "racism is still alive today", as if we're meant to be shocked by this statement. Well, I'm not. Whoever thought that racism was entirely gone from the world? Name me someone who honestly thought racism no longer existed today.

The article cites the case of a black girl who was called a nigger by two white boys. I'm genuinely sorry to hear about this incident and the ignorance of these two boys. But we are all aware that things like this happen every day. No one needs to be enlightened on the issues because we CAN'T ESCAPE THEM. Racism is repeatedly elevated above all forms of discrimination by our media and people are being led to believe that racist abuse or violence is somehow worse than "regular" abuse or violence. So don't tell us racism is still alive today and expect us to be remotely contemplative.

Perhaps most telling is this passage:

Some people attending said racism is not always as obvious as you would think, rather it is often implied.

Dakita McCray, a member of the Freshman Advisory Board, adds, “It can come in the form of a look, it can come in the form of a comment, and a lot of the times it's not direct. You can hear someone saying something to a friend or you can just feel it from a person.”

In other words, you can assume with no actual evidence that a person is racist because it's easy and will garner you a lot of attention.

Imus: Marks Two And Three

CBS Radio in the US has suspended two DJs for a prank on-air call to a Chinese restaurant using lewd language and ordering "shrimp flied lice".

CBS has suspended New York-based DJs Jeff Vandergrift and Dan Lay indefinitely and without pay.

A US-Chinese association has said the two should be fired.

Don Imus leaves his home in New York, 12 April 2007

In the six-minute prank broadcast, the caller says he wants to see one of the female employees of the restaurant naked and calls a part of her body "hot, Asian, spicy".

The caller brags of his kung-fu abilities and swears a number of times.

Personally I thought the prank was hilarious. But I'm just cold-hearted, I'm sure.

Seriously, this is ridiculous. No one is safe from the PC police anymore. I'll state it categorically now: I wholly support Don Imus, Jeff Vandergrift and Dan Lay and, if I could, I would give them all their jobs back.

Banning Words, Again

I've mentioned the subject of people trying to ban racist words here before, and along comes another example as the founder of a major hip-hop record label has called for three words - "nigger", "ho" and "bitch" - to be banned/censored from hip-hop and R &B lyrics because they are racist and sexist.

Once again, I repeat: you CANNOT and SHOULD NOT ban words of ANY kind from being used. Whatever you may think of them, and whether you think they're derogatory or not, people have the right to use whatever words they wish so long as they aren't hurting anyone (and I use the word "hurting" in the physical sense, since I don't buy that anyone can be genuinely "hurt" emotionally by a word - and if they are they need to get a new hobby). PC culture is taking such a hold on our society that we are closing down freedom of speech. It's almost Sharia-like in nature.

Round-up

1. David Cameron says rudeness and swearing in public should be as "unacceptable as racism".

For once I actually sort of agree with Dave. These things SHOULD be seen on equal ground with racism, for when you strip back the layers of PC rhetoric and overblown guilt-mongering, they are indeed very similar. However, I'm also for free speech so I would rather people were honest with each other than feigned a nicey-nicey approach.

2. Reports of racist incidents in schools across Warwickshire are on the rise.

I'm betting that at least half of these have very tenuous links to racism, if any at all.

Round-up

Sorry for my silence over the weekend; there's no excuse. As for racism stories today:

1. The EU have agreed on rules for "combating" racism, which include giving people jail sentences for denying the Holocaust. And the linked article calls this "soft".

2. A ridiculous piece on a new racism study, which predictably focuses solely on "white racism" and none of the other kinds.

3. This article about Coalition struggles against al-Quaeda features the following little gem:

American commanders cite al-Qaida's severe brand of Islam, which is so extreme that in Baqouba, al-Qaida has warned street vendors not to place tomatoes beside cucumbers because the vegetables are different genders, Col. David Sutherland said.

That's extreme even for Islam.

Disgraceful Treatment Towards Dead Muslims

While the American police are fretting over ham-related offenses, actual crimes were being committed against Muslims in France. 50 Muslim graves in a World War I cemetery were desecrated and graffitied with swastikas and Nazi slogans. This is truly disgraceful and I hope the yobs involved are caught and prosecuted.

Horrible Ham Hate Crime

Once again we see how putting a piece of food in front of Muslims constitutes a hate crime in the modern West.

LEWISTON, Maine -- Police are investigating as a possible hate crime an incident in which a ham steak was placed in a bag on a lunch table where a group of Somali students were sitting.

Such an incident would be offensive to Somalis, who are Muslims and consider pork unclean.

A Lewiston Middle School student was suspended after the incident, which happened April 11. Superintendent Leon Levesque said the incident is being treated seriously and police are investigating.

Yep, you heard right: the police are investigating this terrible ham-related incident. God bless Western law enforcement.

Positive Discrimination

I see English and Welsh Chief Constables are to discuss whether to employ more black and Asian officers as an act of "affirmative action" - otherwise known as "positive discrimination".

This is the worst side of Britain's politically correct culture coming out. It is ILLEGAL to discriminate against job applicants on the basis of skin colour, and such a decision would make it perfectly legal - as long as it is white applicants who are the ones to suffer. Never mind who's best for the job; we now have the Police contemplating making racist decisions on who joins this country's police force.

Rebranding St. George

An "ecological think-tank" (read "pretentious tripe-merchants") named Ekklesia believes that St. George, the patron saint of England, should be “rebranded” as a persecuted representative of Britain’s ethnic minorities, a black dissenter who rebelled against the abuse of power.

One of the weirder race-related stories I've seen.

Polygamy Made Legal In UK - For Muslims

Foreign men who settle in this country with multiple wives, from countries where polygamy is legal (such as most Islamic countries) are set to be given additional benefits for their "harems", even though polygamy is illegal in this country.

Britain's multi-cult dhimmicide continues.

Good Dhimmi!

An English Cambridge University student who wrote a series of articles satirising Islam (as well as Christianity and Judaism) is being forced to make a pathetic and groveling apology.

And, surprise surprise, the ones who are really happy about this are the Muslims.

Asim Mumtaz, president of Cambridge’s Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, welcomed the apology, and said he was satisfied with the way the college had dealt with the situation. He said:

“Religion teaches us that God is merciful and forgives, and we should forgive others as well, so long as this student realised the impact of their actions and that this was wrong. This student has a full life ahead of him and if he had been thrown out of the university that would have had a huge impact.”

Round-up

1. A black boy was beaten up at school - so it must be racism.

It could well be, but there is NO PROOF. The fact that he was black does not automatically make any violence against him racist. The attack should be condemned, but it should be condemned simply because it was violent and not because it MAY have been racially motivated.

2. You can blame anything on racism these days. For proof, just look at this story in which scientists claim that black women are more likely to develop breast cancer because "they feel they are the victims of racism".

I kid you not. I could not make up something this asinine if I tried.

The Future of Delivery Services

Received a parcel at the house today. When I answered the door I expected to see the usual bored-looking young man telling me to "sign here". What I found was an attractive and busty woman in a skimpy top. This is the way all deliveries should be conducted!

Islamic Round-up

It's an all-Islamic round-up today, with dhimmitude aplenty:

1. Almost 90% of UK Muslims think Islamic women should be "free" (peculiar choice of word, that) to wear the veil in this country, despite the communication and identification problems it causes, and that the Government should revolve its policies around what they [Muslims] want.

2. Schools in Scotland have been warned that "staring" at a Muslim is Islamophobia.

3. Britain has decided to ban the term "War on Terror". Good, but for the wrong reasons. The "War on Terror" was always a misnomer as it's the war on militant Islamic terror we are actually dealing with. But that's not the reason they banned it. The reason is because "this isn't us against one organised enemy with a clear identity and a coherent set of objectives". It's almost impossible to believe someone could be so totally wrong, isn't it?

Racism In The German Army?

A video aired on German TV has shown an army recruit on firing practice being ordered to pretend he was in New York's Bronx facing hostile African Americans.

In the grainy 90-second video, the instructor tells the soldier to swear as he fires his gun.

US civil rights leader, Al Sharpton, said it was outrageous to depict blacks as "target practice".

What Bias???

Here the anti-Israel bias of British journalists is made clear for all to see as the National Union of Journalists has voted for a boycott of Israeli goods as a "protest" against the war with Lebanon (you know, the country with the terrorist organisation in government that wants to destroy Israel).

Meanwhile, an Islamic pro-terror hate film which encourages children to become jihadists and labels the Jewish as an "army of pigs" has been given a PG rating by the Australian film censorship board!

Yeah, Whatever...

The women's basketball team at the centre of a row over broadcaster Don Imus has accepted his apology for his use of racist language about them.

That's big of them. Can we move on now?

Friday Share

A fairly well known song this week, the beautiful and haunting "My Immortal" by Evanescence. I didn't like their latest album very much at all, but I thought Fallen was very good, if a bit unimaginative at points. Anyway, the reason I'm posting this particular video isn't because I think it's their best song (I don't) but because of how beautiful Amy Lee looks in it. :)

Enjoy:

Dealing With Don Imus

I thought it was at last time to write about a story I had previously overlooked until now: that of Don Imus, an American radio DJ who has just been sacked for referring to black female members of the Rutgers University basketball team as "nappy-headed hoes".

The comments are obviously offensive in nature and, as you would expect from the black community, they just can't get over the unbearable hurt those two (or three) words from a complete stranger caused them.

The 10 members of the Rutgers team - eight of whom are black - have spoken of their hurt over the "insensitive" comments Mr Imus made in his 4 April show.

Bless their hearts.

The comments are racist AND sexist and it is right that Imus is lambasted for them. But the subsequent media reaction has been a trifle aggressive. The President of a US Christian media watchdog has welcomed the sacking of the DJ. Meanwhile, opinion pieces all around America are filled with guilty liberals trying to assert their own squeaky clean moral superiority by banging on about how America is FILLED with racists and that if you don't "hate" it in the way they do you are a bad, immoral person. Well, guess what - I don't care what Imus said. No American outside of Don Imus and the powers that be at CBS should care about what Imus said. It is an isolated incident. True, it was said publically and thus given a wider exposure by nature. But let's move on, shall we? There are much more important things happening in the world. Such as Iran developing nukes.

Luckily, we do get the odd sensible opinion piece, such as this one which, despite the misleading title, makes the points that freedom of speech should be defended no matter what is being said, that if a black person had made the comments about whites it would have gone largely ignored, and that sticks and stones may break our bones but words can never hurt us. I just wish people would learn that. We also have to remember that Imus is a "shock jock" and so anything he says should probably be ignored or taken very lightly.

Report: "Moderate" Islamic Charities Support Terror

This comes as no surprise to me or to anyone else who is suspicious of the motives of many so-called "moderate" Islamic groups.

Hate Crime Alert!

Modern ethics make playing childish jokes against Muslims a hate crime. For example, this story:

Jerome Heath hadn't even heard of a hate crime in Clarksville in the seven years he's lived here.

That changed Friday.

That day, just two hours before the Islamic Center of Clarksville held its 1 p.m. prayer service, called Jummah, a Quran was found vandalized on the front steps.

The front of the Quran, Islam's holy book, read "Mohammad pedophile." An expletive was written inside, smeared under two strips of bacon, according to a Clarksville police report. The report labeled the incident a hate crime.

Bacon is offensive to Muslims because they are forbidden from eating pork.

Now this isn't big or clever. The best way to deal with the Islamic jihad ideology is to contest it sensibly and logically, and point out the aspects of Islam which give rise to violence and other uncivilised behaviours. So whoever did this is an indefensible moron. However, under no criteria does it constitute a "crime".

Plus, as Robert Spencer at Jihad Watch notes, when someone writes "Death to Israel" on the wall of a synagogue it only gets labeled as a possible hate crime:

A synagogue on Chicago's North Side may have been the target of a hate crime after vandals spray-painted derogatory messages on the building early Saturday, police said.

Hello Again And Here's the Round-up

Hi, I'm back at last after a healthy break with my girlfriend and time off over Easter. Hope everyone had a good holiday.

Well, it's that time again; let's get straight back into it: Round-up time..........

1. The first ethnic minority president of the National Union of Teachers has said ministers fuel racism by ordering schools to teach "British values".

Unsubstantiated rubbish.

2. A Professor from the University of Warwick has been criticised because a study which he conducted concluded that there was no evidence that racial disparities in the way mental health treatment is administered were to do with institutional racism. He suggested that there may be other factors involved which we should be looking at, and that simply crying racism prevents us from "looking at things in a slightly more sophisticated manner".

This is exactly the point I have made many times here at Race Relations. Our politically correct, misguided culture is so obsessed with racism that it never stops to analyse things on a deeper level and look for other factors, one of which is the very real possibility of racial and ethnic differences affecting outcomes. Of course, according to them, "all races are the same"...

It's infuriating the way this article does not even attempt to see the Professor's point of view; it simply quotes something by him and then follows it with something along the lines of, "Despite this man's nutty claims, the following statistics show that racism is involved". Well, no they don't; they show a trend and no reasons, nothing more. PC blindness closes down genuine debate and analysis once again.
